Featured Vendor: Billy's Barn

When the Crenwelges first moved to Central Texas, they knew they had found a good neighbor in Billy Robinson next door.

“He was just an amazing man,” said Melinda Crenwelge. “You could go over with anything broken and he’d walk into his barn, comb through all of these tools, and go right to the thing you needed and would either fix it or show you how to fix it. He was the definition of a good neighbor.”

When he and his wife passed away, the Crenwelges decided to purchase the property and name it “Billy’s Barn,” to pay homage to their departed friend.

“With much guidance from God, we wanted to create a special venue for weddings and family and business events. We transformed the shop into a Guest Haus and listed it on AirBNB,” Melinda said.

With help from many friends, both old and new, the family was able to demo the Robinson’s aging home and salvage enough wood to finish the interior barn walls and make picnic tables for the covered patio. The home’s shutters were also salvaged and used to create the stage that is under the patio as well. Both kind and extremely talented Guest Haus visitors built the property’s Cedar Chapel from old wood gifted by dear friends. The chapel was blessed by Father Raj for the venue’s first wedding, which just happened to be on the Crenwelge’s 40th wedding anniversary.

The remodeled air-conditioned and heated barn can seat up to 120 people and can be rented by itself or with the Guest Haus. The venue also offers another 60 seats at the 10 picnic tables on the covered patio.

“If I could tell a bride anything about our venue, I would say we have both covered indoor and outdoor venue locations,” said Mark and Melinda’s daughter, Brianna, who markets and manages Billy’s Barn. “For the bride with everything planned outdoors, we can move everything indoors if the weather changes.”

Giving brides and grooms the perfect day for their sacred vows is so important to the Crenwelges who want everyone who visits the location to feel like they are one of the family, just like Billy would have done.

“We want it to be a special place where people can relax, celebrate and enjoy each other’s company, and experience a special moment that brings them closer together and closer to God,” Melinda said.
