For years, Angela Dodd searched for the perfect location to build her own wedding venue. But after almost a decade of looking, she decided to put her dream aside. She was already busy with a career as a registered nurse, so she put her aspirations on hold.
Then, like a scene out of a Hallmark movie, Dodd met her husband two-and-a-half years ago and he happened to own a 15-acre ranch in Hillsboro that lent itself to becoming a beautiful wedding venue.
“When we got married, we decided that he would move in with me,” Dodd said. “His house was perfect. That’s where it was meant to be from the beginning.”
The two named their new venue Magnolia Ranch and set about building a rustic barn and gazebo to host scenic weddings on the property.
“We are kind of set on top of a hill, so our gazebo overlooks about 50 acres of farm and ranch land. It’s just all beautiful landscaping,” Dodd said.
But the scenery isn’t the only perk of this brand-new wedding venue. It also has space for overnight guests, rooms for the wedding party to get ready, and a Sweetheart’s Suite for couples who choose to spend their first night on the property.
“Our main package is a full weekend rental,” she said. “That means they can come in and start using the space on Friday at noon and they don’t have to be out until Sunday at noon. It gives them time to decorate and do the rehearsal and have a little bit of breathing room.”
The venue also provides chairs for the outdoor ceremony space adjacent to the gazebo, and chairs, tables and simple white linens for the barn.
Dodd said if brides are looking for a relaxed, rustic, ranch feel, then Magnolia Ranch might just be the place for them.
“We try to be very accommodating,” she said. “We don’t have a lot of strict rules. We just want you to hang out and have a good time and party with your people.”
