The 3 Factors That Determine How You Plan Your Wedding

After you decide on the wedding date and budget, it can be difficult to know where to start on planning your wedding. There are three factors that will ultimately determine how you create a plan – budget, time and convenience.

Budget – the amount of your budget will determine if you have a large or small wedding and if it will be more DIY or full of professional vendors.

Time – the amount of time to plan will have more of an impact than just “is this vendor available or not.” It will define how much of a personal stamp you add to the wedding and what conveniences will be needed.

Convenience – the amount of work you will be doing as opposed to having others do the work.

Think of this as an “A + B = C” situation. Two of these factors will decide the third. For instance:

Small budget + less time = less convenience

When you have a small budget and little time, there’s definitely less convenience. You’ll need to be careful and selective. The size of the wedding will matter, and will likely be small, since you are doing many things yourself and need to stretch your budget as much as possible. If you know this ahead of time, you can think of creative ways to save and enlist the help of friends and family for DIY projects.

Small budget + lots of time = less convenience

When you have a small budget but lots of time, there’s still less convenience but some flexibility. You’ll be able to save and do more DIY projects to lower the cost of the wedding. The size of the wedding might matter depending on what you want to do and how much you do yourself. Knowing this ahead of time will allow you to save up for things and start working on projects so you stick to your budget.

Big budget + lots of time = more convenience

When you have a large budget and more time, you have a lot of freedom in your choices. The size of the wedding doesn’t matter much because you have the budget for it. Since you figured this out at the beginning, you’ll most likely be able to hire your first choice of vendors and easily get everything ready in time for your big day (as long as you don’t procrastinate).

Big budget + less time = more convenience

When you have a large budget but not a lot of time, there’s more convenience but you’ll need all the help you can get. The size of the wedding might matter since you and the guests will need to make plans quickly. Since you are aware of this at the beginning, you’ll be able to hire an event planner, hire vendors quickly and give guests advanced notice about the wedding.

By using this budget + time = convenience equation, you’ll have a better idea how to start planning your wedding.

Happy planning!
