For almost 25 years, brides and their families have traveled to Scribbles on Lake Air Drive in Waco to find the wedding invitations of their dreams.
“That is really an accomplishment for a small shop to stay alive for that long, especially during a pandemic,” said, Janie Peterson, who bought the store with her daughter Anne Conine in 2016. “We have a lot of loyal customers who have kept us afloat through all of this.”
Not only has the store kept their loyal following, but Scribbles has even attracted new followers in the last few months because of its platforms on Instagram and Facebook. Peterson and her daughter have helped bring the shop into the digital age by taking advantage of social media and employing a graphic designer to create modern invitations, stationery, and notecards.
“We can pretty well match anything that brides can find online,” Peterson said.
But even though the store has modernized their approach to wedding invitations, the shop owner said there is nothing like coming into Scribbles and getting to see what you’re getting.
“It might be cheaper to buy online, but you don’t know what the product will look like or what the paper will feel like,” she said. “I think the 
bride and her groom should come in and see it and feel it.”
Just like before the pandemic, employees at Scribbles are available to sit down and go through the process of finding a couples’ ideal invitations. And they are making sure every bride and groom feels comfortable during their appointment.
“We wear masks and encourage others to wear masks as well,” she said. “After each customer leaves, we wipe down anywhere the customer has been sitting. We’re very cautious.”
Peterson does encourage brides to make an appointment to look at the shop’s stationery inventory, so they can have the employees’ undivided attention. Scribbles is open Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m – 3 p.m.
