Nicholas knew Christy was a great catch from the beginning. But it wasn’t until she held her own on a shark fishing trip that he knew she was a keeper. He even brought his future bride out on another fishing trip to pop the question. After reeling in a big fish, Nicholas’ friends prodded Christy to take a picture with her boyfriend and the shark. It was then that the fisherman got down on one knee and proposed to Christy with a Ring Pop.
Because the couple’s proposal happened at sea, they decided to host a beach-themed wedding complete with a three-tiered cake in shape of sea urchins. The ceremony took place in front of the aquarium at Cameron Park Zoo, where the bride carried a bouquet of birds of paradise flowers, while the rest of the wedding party carried tropical arrangements. The reception included a view of the zoo’s pond where guests had the chance to play flamingo ring toss and eat fajitas off of plates in the shape of shells.
Christy and Nicholas created most of the décor themselves, including the yard games, a fishing net backdrop, and a piece made from an old window and colored sea glass.
